Andy sat down with his parents to discuss their involvement with the creation of a hospice program at “The Gorge” in Hood River, Ore., in 1980, when hospice programs were in their infancy. After having witnessed a friend die on hospice, they saw firsthand the necessity of hospice in end-of-life care. Jackie was asked to join the board of this new hospice program and brought Dr. Wade in as the medical director. His role was to educate physicians about hospice and help people die in comfort.
