When Jennifer’s brother John died of a drug overdose leaving his four kids, ages 10-14, orphans, she and her husband, Michael, took them in. Their mother had passed away eight years earlier, leaving Emily, the oldest then 6-years old, as the de facto mom for her younger siblings.
